Fridges with internal battery support and a solar panel input can be powered by our GH2015 folding solar panel, and GH2049/GH2051/GH2053 internal fridge batteries. Ice makers can not be powered by solar panels.
These fridges can be powered by other solar panels, as long as they have an output no larger than 100watts, and the panels do not have a solar controller built-in. You must always have an internal battery installed in the fridge, if you are connecting solar panels to the fridge.
The 100w solar panel blanket is sufficient to power the fridge during hours of decent sun (10-3 in most locations), but it may not generate enough surplus power to also charge the internal battery at the same time.
Fridges without solar or internal battery support can be powered from vehicles, or from portable battery setups. The attached sheet below the table gives more detail of the external battery/controller/solar panel hardware recommendations to power a fridge.
To charge a Brass Monkey Fridge battery: place it into a fridge and supply power to the fridge via the power socket (12v or 240v power adapter, or solar input (if your fridge has this). Alternatively a mains power adapter is available to buy separately that plugs into the battery whilst it is not installed in a fridge - please contact your preferred retailer to obtain this. The GH2059 charger suits batteries GH2049/GH2051/GH2053.
The time it takes to charge the fridge battery will vary depending on how full the battery was and what power source you provide to the battery - when the fridge is on mains, the 15Ah battery will take around 6-8 hours, the 7.8Ah battery will take around 4-5 hours and the 5.2Ah battery will take around 3-4 hours. The four fuel gauge LEDs on the battery indicate charge state, the round LED on the battery is green when the battery is charging, and blue when powering the fridge.
